No, we are not here to talk about role plays. We are here to talk about real physicists, who work in labs, private industries, research organizations or in academic settings. In order to become a real scientist, you need to talk like a physicist and look like a real qualified worker. So, what should real physics wear these days?
You don’t have to be a scruffy woman dressed in your grandmas’ sweater, skirt, ripped jeans and Timberland boots. Trust me, this won’t make you smarter. There are simple tricks and tips on how to become a beautiful professional in no time. Are you interested, are you following me? If yes, then let me continue our journey into the physics fashion world.
Well-Looking Outfit
For everyone dressing well can mean different things. For me, a well-looking scientist woman is the one dressed in a clean, well-defined outfit. If you are a physicist who reads this right now, you might think I am a stupid little girl who cares about fashion only. But some say to succeed in science, you need to focus on your career, as closely as on your work. You need to socialize with people, brand yourself and self-promote. I am not saying to wear Coachella outfits or follow the latest fashion trends. How can you make things look smooth, professional and ladylike? First: you need to know the science field you are working on (quite logical), then you need to have a great self-presentation, and a well-dressed appearance to attract people from the very first sight. I would say, try to sport clothes that you used to wear for an interview. A professional looking lady is a sight of respect.
Interview Suits
As I mentioned before, the interview suit is the most traditional and safest look that actually works in a modern female physicist wardrobe. Remember those good old days, when you had to wear dressy clothes for a job interview? Go for a basic blue suit that can be worn year round. You can find a wide variety of cuts and styles, including single-breasted suits, double-breasted, slim pants, pencil skirts and whatever.
I personally am a big fan of pencil skirts, you are free to find something that looks good on you. Above the knee length is usually pretty flattering on most ladies. Stay away from mini skirts. I prefer to wear longer skirts they are a) very flattering and b) still look professional. That’s why midi-length skirts are the ones you need to have in your closet.
Classic White Blouses
Another great clothing staple that can be used by many professionals is the classic white blouse. It will look classy with a blue suit or whatever color of suit you like. Don’t be shy and buy lovely pussy bow tops. This marvelous clothing staple is a great way to make your professional outfit more feminine. Speaking of jewelry and accessories: better keep it to the minimum: no dangling earrings, no chunky necklaces, except a classic ring with no big diamond and a briefcase or a classic neutral color purse.
Dress for your shape & tattoos
Don’t go for oversized and too tight dresses. Speaking of your body, I wanted to touch on one topic, called the bodypainting and tattoo. All the body modification we set on our skin, like the design made by inserting ink into the dermis layer of the skin to change the pigment is your personal choice. That’s why everything depends on the place where you work in. If it’s an academy field, where you have to work with students, then I guess it’s better to avoid tattoos. Of course, if nobody sees, then nothing happened, right? That’s why it’s okay to have tattoos on your skin unless they are not seen. By the way, you can find tons of interesting physicist tattoos on the web featuring all kinds of formulas, as well as funny designs. Anyway, back on track, use long sleeve tops and dresses, if you have tattoos on your arms, turtleneck tops if you have a tattoo on your neck, black tights, leggings, and pants if the tattoos are on your leg, etc.
